British billionaire Sir Richard Branson sailed out with a crew of champion sailors and his two grown children on the 99 foot yacht Virgin Money this morning in an attempt to break the trans-Atlantic sailing record.

Richard Branson has been breaking speed records since the 1980s. He broke a record in 1986 that had stood for 34 years when he manned a speedboat across the Atlantic. He has also piloted hot air balloons across the Atlantic and Pacific.

The Virgin Money crew will face some seriously nasty weather on their 2,900 mile sail across the North Atlantic, which is a perfect chance to break the world sailing record from New York to the Lizard Point in the UK.  I sure hope Ben Ainslie doesn’t get seasick!
